On June 25, more than 65 community members attended a workshop at the Nappanee Public Library to discuss a visionary multi-use trail connecting Nappanee and Wakarusa.
The workshop cultivated lively discussion about moving the project forward in the community. The project Steering Committee, consisting of residents and representatives from nonprofits and various governmental agencies, was able to collect valuable must-haves and must-avoids from both opposing and supportive voices.
The trail will likely be six miles in length and could potentially include a separated lane for horse-and-buggy traffic similar to a trail in Holmes County, Ohio.
A community action team is being formed to do more exploration and another public workshop will be scheduled this fall. If you or someone you know lives or works within the project boundaries and would like to participate or learn more, please email: team@connectinelkhartcounty.com
