Improvements to the Pumpkinvine Nature Trail

This fall, two major improvement projects were completed on the Pumpkinvine Nature Trail in Goshen.

A previously unpaved 1.8-mile section of the trail between S.R. 4 (Lincoln Avenue) and C.R. 28 was paved, offering a smoother and more consistent experience for everyone who uses it.

This upgrade makes it easier to navigate for cyclists, walkers, joggers, and families with strollers in all seasons. Previously crushed limestone, the surface made snow removal and freeze-thaw season trail usage a challenge. The new asphalt surface will enhance accessibility for individuals with mobility challenges, ensuring the trail can be enjoyed more widely by our community.

Another maintenance project completed late this year rebuilt a 900-foot section of trail near mile marker 2, just east of C.R. 127. The base of the trail had been failing, causing the asphalt to dip and buckle. To blame for the failure were the poor subgrade soils used to create the original railroad bed; all of which were removed and replaced with appropriate materials. This project was paid for, in full, by the Friends of the Pumpkinvine Nature Trail, and its generous donors.
