A new pedestrian and bicycle bridge over U.S. 33 in Goshen is nearly complete and will provide a safe crossing for trail users and enhance the overall connectivity of Elkhart County’s growing trail network. This important addition addresses a significant safety concern by allowing walkers, runners, and cyclists to avoid navigating busy highway traffic.
The bridge, which was primarily funded by INDOT and required a 20% local match, cost just over $6 million. It represents a substantial investment in the safety and usability of the county’s trails. By linking the MapleHeart trail, along C.R. 45, to previously unconnected sections of the network south of U.S. 33, the bridge supports both recreational use and alternative transportation options.
With the completion of the bridge, the county’s trail system will become even more valuable as a resource for improved health, recreation, and sustainable transportation for residents and visitors alike. Whether you’re commuting or enjoying a day outdoors, the improved safety and connectivity will benefit everyone who uses the trails.
